Se você é fã de Juliette Lewis, e acompanha a carreira da atriz/cantora, sabe o que é o Roller Derby. Se caiu de paraquedas neste (lindo) blog, vamos te explicar =P

Roller Derby é um esporte de contato praticado pelas mulheres, que usam patins (os clássicos, quad speed) e tem o objetivo básico de dar voltas em uma pista circular, ultrapassando as meninas do time adversário. Claro que tem muito mais regras, mas deu pra imaginar?

Para ter uma ideia mais “visual”, vai uma descrição interessante que lemos em outro blog:

“Imagine um jogo de hockey, mas substitua o gelo por uma pista de patinação. Troque as largas camisetas por meias finas e camisetas regata e esqueça os nomes comuns para ficar com pseudônimos como Tanya Hyde e Demi Gore. Você terá uma idéia razoável do que é o roller derby feminino.”

Sacou mais ou menos o que é?

O esporte ganhou visibilidade no Brasil no filme “Whip it“, estrelado por nossa querida Juliette, e dirigido por Drew Barrymore. De lá pra cá, o Roller Derby ganhou força e já tem até uma “liga” Brasil que vai competir no Mundial!

Para comemorar o avanço do esporte na terrinha, chamamos as meninas da liga (pq não é time, é “liga”!) Gray City Rebels para uma entrevista. Agora vocês ficam com elas, que vão explicar um pouquinho mais sobre este esporte diferente e ultra-moderno – apesar de ter sido criado nos anos 30!

JLBR entrevista Gray City Rebels

JLBR – Como você descobriu o esporte? O que te deu o empurrão para começar a praticar? – O esporte é indicado para que tipo de pessoa? Todas podem praticar, as magrelas e as mais gordinhas?

 Dedé – Uma prima minha tinha falado de roller derby pra mim há uns 3, 4 anos… Ela falou que era um esporte legal meio “riot grrrl” e que tinha que ser mais gordinha porque você dava porrada nas outras meninas. Não me interessei muito, e aí um dia assisti “Whip It”, com a Juliette Lewis, Ellen Page e Drew Barrymore (<3 ) e pensei “Wow, esse lance parece ser legal. Será que tem no Brasil?”. E tinha uma liga de flat track, que é uma modalidade diferente da que tem no filme, e eu entrei numa liga em SP, e fiz muitas amigas novas e isso foi me motivando pra continuar indo. No final de 2010, eu e mais umas amigas saímos dessa liga e montamos a nossa, a Gray City Rebels.

Todas as meninas podem fazer roller derby, e isso é o mais legal: você não precisa ter porte atlético, ser alta como no basquete, por exemplo, você pode ser baixinha e gordinha (o/) e ainda assim se encontrar e ser uma ótima jogadora. Além de que, claro, você vai entrar em forma: é um esporte super do bem pro seu corpo, você fica com as coxas e batata da perna lindas, os braços mais definidos, o abdome idem… enfim, melhor que natação, cara!

É verdade que o Roller Derby era bem mais violento no passado? Como são as regras hoje em dia?

Dedé – Quando o roller derby surgiu, nos anos 30, era só uma corrida de patins. O objetivo era dar 948324823423 mil voltas naquela pista inclinada (que se chama banked track). Nos anos 70, o roller derby voltou como uma coisa mais encenada, em que as meninas davam voltas na mesma pista de patins, mas iam se porrando, jogando as outras pra fora, dando socos, etc. Tudo ensaiado, tipo uma luta livre, mas valia tudo: cotovelada, soco na cara, puxar pelo cabelo, empurrar, etc.

O roller derby moderno é bem estruturado e cheio de regras. Desde o começo dos anos 2000, as regras vem sendo aperfeiçoadas e tudo isso que valia na “luta livre de roller derby” não vale mais.  Não pode dar cotovelada igual o “Whip it” mostra, chutar, jogar pra fora da pista de maneira ilegal… O que vale é usar seus quadris, coxas e ombros pra empurrar alguém pra fora da pista e ajudar a jogadora do seu time. Há uma associação de roller derby chamada WFTDA que é responsável por coordenar e qualificar as ligas que decidem se associar a ela, além de promover campeonatos entre as ligas e países.

Roller Derby é um esporte caro? Sabemos que aqui no Brasil é super difícil conseguir patrocínio… como vocês mantêm os treinamentos? Dá pra comprar os equipamentos aqui no Brasil mesmo?

Dedé – É um esporte caro sim, porque os patins que usamos praticamente não são fabricados no Brasil (o que existe aqui não é muito bom) e acabamos tendo que importar patins, rodinhas, rolamentos e até o equipamento de segurança. Dá pra comprar os equipamentos no Brasil, mas às vezes compensa comprar o importado por uma questão de qualidade e preço.

Os treinos aqui são super DIY e nós aprendemos via YouTube, assistindo bouts (que são os jogos), trazendo jogadoras gringas pra ensinar pra gente, etc. As meninas que fazem parte da nossa liga pagam uma mensalidade simbólica pra ajudar com confecção de camisetas, buttons, flyers e eventuais gastos que a gente possa ter.

A questão do visual é muito forte para quem vê o esporte de fora. Como vocês lidam com isso?

Dedé – Nas Gray City Rebels a gente costuma dizer que as meninas podem até entrar pelo visual, mas se elas decidem continuar, é porque se apaixonam pelo esporte. O esporte roller derby é muito mais do que usar meia arrastão e shorts e meias coloridos, é um esporte que busca fazer as atletas se esforçarem sempre mais além do que elas acham que podem. Exige força mental e física, e sacrifício para conseguir fazer o que é exigido durante os treinos. É engraçado porque nos primeiros treinos a menina pode até ir toda “estilo roller derby”, mas dá um treino e ela já ta usando legging e uma camiseta favorável pra prática de exercícios. Igual ir a academia: você se maqueia e vai com roupas pra chamar atenção ou vai pra fazer exercício? Pra gente é exercício.

E quem quer entrar pro mundo do Roller Derby, faz o quê? Quais são os primeiros passos? (independente de ser em SP/BRA)

Dedé – Aqui em São Paulo na nossa liga, pra começar a treinar com a gente você precisa ter disponibilidade de horário pra treinar de 2 a 3 vezes por semana, vontade de aprender e comprometimento. O primeiro passo é aparecer em um treino nosso pra conhecer a gente e a gente conhecer você e te explicar direitinho como funciona a nossa liga. Levamos o esporte muito a sério e queremos meninas comprometidas e que estejam dispostas a treinar e ajudar dentro da liga. Depois, é bom guardar uma graninha pra comprar seus patins e equipamento de proteção – nós temos alguns disponíveis pra alugar durante um tempo enquanto você não compra os seus. E aí, é so se preparar pra se apaixonar pelo esporte mais irado do mundo!

O que é o “Derby Name”? Qual a história do seu Derby Name?

Dedé – Derby name é tipo um apelido, que normalmente envolve algum trocadilho, que as meninas que fazem roller derby usam quando jogam. Tem gente que fala que é como se fosse o seu alter-ego, mas eu particularmente vejo mais como um jeito de fazer uma piadinha com alguma coisa que você gosta bastante… Tem meninas que tem derby names mais a ver com ser durona e que vai acabar com a outra menina na track, tipo Atomatrix, DeRanged, etc, outras com piadinhas tipo Georgia W Tush, Smack Daddy e por aí vai. O meu derby name é Kaia Pilsen e é por causa de uma cantora e guitarrista que eu gosto muito, chamada Kaia Wilson. Quando eu comecei a fazer roller derby, tinha acabado de ir a um show da banda dela e tava pirando muito nas músicas da moça. E dizem por aí que eu gosto de tomar cerveja e que eu entrei no roller derby pelo after-party, então… Pilsen!

Mari – O Derby name é um apelido, como se fosse um alter ego. Ele pode ser um trocadilho com algum ícone famoso, tipo ator, atriz, cantores, bandas, etc. ou pode ser uma brincadeirinha com algo que tenha a ver com a personalidade da jogadora.
O meu Derby Name é Peryl Streep, é um trocadilho com o nome de uma atriz que eu gosto muito (e tá meio óbvio), Meryl Streep… “Peryl” de perigo e “Streep” do sobrenome mesmo. Eu o escolhi depois de ter pensado em vários outros tipo Virginia Woound (com 2 “O’s” mesmo, pra lembrar Woolf) e alguns outros que não lembro direito. Eu só sei que queria algo diferente. Quando a jogadora de Montreal, Georgia W Tush, veio pra cá dar um treinamento pra gente das GCR (e para as outras ligas convidadas), ela me disse que nunca viu ninguém com um derby name que fizesse referência a uma senhora, então…acho que consegui algo diferente! ha ha!

Conte pra gente um pouco sobre a Gray City Rebels e sobre a copa do mundo em Toronto.

Dedé – Gray City Rebels é a liga que eu, a Ju Leal (Ginger Midget), a Mari Teixeira (Peryl Streep) e a Renata Hazan (Alpha Mail Me) fundamos quando decidimos sair da outra liga em que fazíamos parte. A gente não tava muito contente com algumas coisas, queria fazer diferente mas era apaixonada por roller derby do mesmo jeito pra simplesmente desencanar. Fundar e administrar uma liga é a coisa mais legal e mais difícil que eu já fiz na minha vida. A gente cuida de tudo, desde dias e horários de treinos até o que achamos importante atingir como atletas, o que podemos fazer pra ganhar visibilidade produtiva na mídia, como recrutar e manter meninas no nosso time, a importância do comprometimento com a liga e o esporte, etc.  As meninas que entram na liga tem que estar comprometidas e envolvidas, indo a 75% dos treinos, participando de comitês que ajudam a organizar a liga, e treinando duro pra avaliação que pedimos depois de 2 meses de treino. Não dá pra entrar achando que vai ser festa e usar meia arrastão e maquiagem e só, porque a gente exige muito mais do que isso. A gente tem meninas que patinam há dois meses e são lindas, não sabiam nem ficar de pé no patins e hoje estão super bem e confiantes pra caramba. E roller derby pra gente é isso, é sobre ir além dos seus limites, se forçar a fazer algo legal, se tornar confiante.

Dos dias 2 a 4 de dezembro vai ter a primeira copa do mundo de roller derby em Toronto, e a Nanda Corrêa (aka Brazilian Nut, que joga na liga de NY Gotham Girls) teve a idéia da gente montar um time do Brasil. Tivemos duas etapas pra selecionar o time e 20 meninas foram escolhidas pra representar o Brasil nessa Copa, incluindo 4 brasileiras que moram e jogam em outros países como EUA, Canadá e Alemanha. Não sabemos direito como vai ser, mas estamos mega ansiosas e treinando bastante pra poder dar o nosso melhor!!! É bem difícil porque tudo está sendo pago do nosso bolso, não temos patrocínio nem apoio de nenhuma instituição nem do governo, então cada uma está se virando como pode pra pagar as passagens e despesas que teremos lá.

Você já assistiu o filme Whip It, estrelado por Ellen Page e Juliette Lewis? O que você achou? Juliette convenceu como Derby Girl para as Derby Girls de verdade?

Dedé – Assisti e na época gostei bastante do filme! Um filme com Drew Barrymore, Ellen Page e Juliette Lewis é praticamente uma fórmula mágica pra meninas, não tem como não gostar! Claro que hoje, depois de conhecer muito mais sobre roller derby, acho que o filme deixa a desejar bastante principalmente em termos do esporte em si, mas é bonitinho… A Juliette acho que ficou sendo como a derby girl mais durona e se esforçou bastante pra isso, e acho que as meninas que eu conheço que fazem derby e vêem a personagem da Juliette (que tem o derby name de uma jogadora de verdade, a Iron Maven) como uma derby girl bem real.

Mari –Eu assisti o Whip It, claro!! Foi o primeiro filme que eu vi com referência ao derby. Eu achei o filme muito legal, apesar de ter alguns movimentos ilegais no derby (tipo cotoveladas), mas aí você percebe que é isso que dá graça nas Hurl Scouts, a atitude de não prestar muita atenção nas regras e tals (mas crianças, não façam isso na vida real! haha!).

A Juliette convenceu MUITO como Derby Girl, ela tem atitude, tem uma “game face” muito boa e o jeito especial Juliette de ser né?! <3 Posso dizer que ela foi minha primeira derby crush, em março de 2010 ha ha!

A Juliette se apaixonou pelo Roller Derby e adora quando as ligas marcam presença em seus shows. Mandem um recado pra ela!

Dedé – Eu só posso dizer que adoro que a Juliette sempre chama as derby girls das cidades que está tocando pra ir aos seus shows! Aqui no Brasil, roller derby é tão novo e tão desconhecido ainda que a visibilidade que ela dá seria espetacular! Juliette, vem logo pro Brasil patinar com as Rebels e é nóis curtindo suas músicas super foda! =)

If you’re a Juliette Lewis’ fan and follow her career as a singer and as an actress, then you know what Roller Derby is. If you just fell into this (beautiful) blog, we’ll explain you what it is =P

Roller Derby is a contact sport practiced by women who wear roller skates (the old school ones, quad speed) and the object of the game is basically to run laps on a banked track trying to pass through the pack of the opposite team. There are lots of other rules, but did you get the picture?

To get a more “visual” picture of it, here goes a description we found in another blog:

“Picture a hockey game but with a roller skate track instead of the ice. Now substitute the large T-shirts for stockings and tank tops and forget about ordinary names, try cool nicknames such as Tanya Hyde and Demi Gore. You’ll get a pretty good idea of what Roller Derby is.”

Can you imagine what it is like?

The sport gain visibility in Brazil with the movie “Whip it“, starred by our dear Juliette and directed by Drew Barrymore. Since then, Roller Derby is getting bigger and bigger and we already have a Brazilian league that will compete in the first Roller Derby World Cup!

To celebrate the success of this sport in our country we invited the girls from the Gray City Rebels league (it’s not a team, it’s a “league”!) to give us an interview. They’ll explain to you a little bit better about this different and ultra-modern sport – although it was created in the 30’s!

JLBR interviews Gray City Rebels

JLBR - How did you find out about this sport? What made you start practicing it? Is this sport suitable for every kind of person? Can anyone be a part of it, including the skinny and the chubby ones?

Dedé – One of my cousins had said something about roller derby to me like, 3, 4 years ago… She said that it was a kind of “Riot Grrrl” sport and that you had to be a bit chubby to play, because you could actually hit other girls. I didn’t pay much attention to it, but then, some time later, I watched Whip It, starring Ellen Page, Juliette Lewis and Drew Barrymore (<3) and I thought: “wow, this could be fun! Are there any leagues in Brazil?”. It turned out there was a flat track league, different from the movie, which is banked track, so I joined the league, made a lot of new friends and it kept me going. In the end of 2010, some friends and I left the league and started our own, the Gray City Rebels.

Every single girl can do derby, and that’s what’s cool: you don’t need to have an athletic body, you don’t need to be tall, like in basketball for example, you can be little and a bit chubby (o/) and still find your place in the team as a great player. Besides that, you are gonna be fit, roller derby is a sport that does wonders for your body; your thighs get stronger, your legs get more beautiful, the arms get bulgy and so do your abs…Anyhow, it’s better than swimming, dude!

Is it true that Roller Derby used to be a lot more violent in the past? What are the rules nowadays?

Dedé – When roller derby came about, in the 30′s, it was just a race on roller skates. The goal was to run 948324823423 laps on the banked track. In the 70′s, roller derby revived as something staged, a game in which the girls ran laps on the banked track hitting, punching and pushing each other around. It was all staged, every single move had been previously rehearsed, it was like wresting, where everything was allowed: punch to the face, pulling hair, pushing, pulling, etc.

Modern roller derby is well structured, solid and full of rules. Since its boom (and re-revival) in 2000, the rules have been improved and everything that was allowed in the “wrestling derby” is not allowed anymore. You can throw elbows, like shown in Whip It, kick or throw somebody off the track in an ilegal way…What you can do is to use your hips, thighs and shoulders to push someone off the track as well as to help your teammates. There’s an association called WFTDA, which is responsible for coordinating and qualifying the leagues that decide to associate with them, besides promoting tournaments among leagues and countries.

Is Roller Derby an expensive sport? We know that in Brazil it is really hard to get any kind of patronage… what do you do to keep your trainings? Do you buy the equipment here in Brazil? 

Dedé – It’s an expensive sport, yes. The kind of skates we use are not made in Brazil (the one brand there is here is not good at all), so we end up importing skates, wheels, bearings and even the gear. We can buy the gear here, but sometimes it’s worth it to buy imported gear, it’s a matter of quality and price.

The practices here are DIY and we learn stuff by watching videos on YouTube, bouts, by bringing some players down to S. America to teach us, etc. The girls who are part of our league pay a monthly fee (a very symbolic one) to help us make buttons, tees, flyers and to cover occasional expenses we might have.

The style in Roller Derby is really important for those who don’t know much about the sport. How do you deal with this?

Dedé – In the Gray City Rebels we say that the girls may join derby because of the clothing style, but if they decide to stick with us, it’s because they have fallen in love with the sport. Roller derby is so much more than fishnets, lift and separate shorts and colorful socks, it’s a sport whose aim is to make the athletes reach their limits and go beyond them. It requires mental and physical strength, besides effort, which is highly demanded during practices. It’s funny that in the first or second practice, a girl may be dressed “derby style”, but by the time they reach a certain number of practices, they start wearing leggings, a comfy tee, whatever fits them best for playing a sport. It’s like going to the gym: do you put make up on and some clothes to show off or do you go there to exercise? To us, it is to exercise.

For those willing to join the Roller Derby world, what should they do? What are the first steps?

Dedé – Here in our league in São Paulo, in order to start practicing with us you have to be able to attend 2 or 3 practices a week, you have to be willing to learn and you also have to be committed to the sport.  The first step is to go to our practice and get to know us, so we can explain to you how our league works. We take the sport very seriously and we want girls who are committed and willing to help the league. After that, it’s a nice idea to save some money to buy your skates and gear – we do have some for rent, while you wait to buy yours. And then, you just have to get ready and fall in love with the most rad sport in the world!!

What’s a “Derby Name”? What’s the story of your Derby Name?

Dedé – The derby name is kind of a nickname that envolves a pun. The girls who play roller derby use them during bouts. There are people who say that it’s kind of your alter ego, but I particularly see it as a way to make a joke about something you dig a lot. There are girls whose derby names have to do with their toughness and how they’re willing to beat other girls on track, like Atomatrix, DeRanged, etc. and others with puns like Georgia W. Tush, Smack Daddy, and so on. My derby name is Kaia Pilsen because of a singer/guitarist that I like very much, called Kaia Wilson. When I joined derby I had junt been to one of her concerts and I was much into her music. People say that I like beer and that I joined roller derby for the after-parties, so… Pilsen. ;p

Mari – The Derby Name is like a nickname, it’s more like an alter ego, that is what people say. It can be a pun with the name of a famous person, a singer or a band…sometimes it’s a pun with one of the player’s personality traits.
My derby name is Peryl Streep. It’s a pun with the name of an actress I like very much (and it’s kinda obvious), Meryl Streep…”Peryl” is for “Peril” and “Streep”, well, it’s just the plain surname. I chose it after having given it much thought, I came up with a list of derby names, like “Virginia Woound” (with double “o” to be a reference to Virginia Woolf. All I know is that I wanted something different for a derby name.
When Montreal’s founder and players Georgia W. Tush came down to S. America to give a bootcamp hosted by us (GCR), she told me that she had never known anyone whose derby name was a reference to a senior, so… I think I got something pretty different for a derby name! Haha!

Tell us a little bit about the Gray City Rebels and about the Roller Derby World Cup in Toronto.

Dedé – The Gray City Rebels is a league that I, Ju Leal (Ginger Midget), Mari Teixeira (Peryl Streep) and Renata Hazan (Alpha Mail Me) founded when we decided to leave the other league we were part of. We were not happy about the way some things were dealt with, we wanted things to be different, but we were too smitten by derby to simply give up. Founding and managing a league is the coolest and hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. We take care of everything, from time and place of practices to deciding what skills are important to acquire as an athlete, what we can do to recruit girls, what we can do to have productive visibility in the media, etc. The girls that join the league have to be committed to the sport and envolved in it, having to attend 75% of the practices, taking part in committees and practicing really hard to pass an evaluation after 2 months of practice. You can’t join just because of the fishnets, make-up and the parties and that will be it, it’s much more than that. We have girls who have been skating for 2 moths who are skating confidently and very well. For us, roller derby is that: it’s all about going beyond your limits, pushing yourself into doing something nice and getting more confident about yourself.

From December 2^nd to 4^th, there will be the first roller derby world cup in Toronto, Canada, and Nanda Corrêa (aka Brazilian Nut, who plays for Gotham Girls Roller Derby) had the idea to gather the girls in Brazil and make a team. We had a two-round tryout to select 20 girls to represent out country in this tournament, including 4 Brazilians who play in countries like USA, Canada and Germany. We don’t know exactly how it’s gonna go, but we’re super anxious and practicing a lot to do our best!!! It’s been really hard specially because we’re paying everything ourselves, we have no sponsors, no government support, so the girls are doing what they can to pay for the tickets and expenses.

Have you ever seen the movie Whip It, starred by Ellen Page and Juliette Lewis? Did you like it? Do you think Juliette was convincing as a Derby Girl in the eyes of the real Derby Girls?

Dedé – I watched it at the time and I liked it very much! A movie with Drew Barrymore, Ellen Page and Juliette Lewis is like a magic potion for girls, it’s impossible not to like it! Of course that nowadays, after knowing the sport better, I think when it comes to roller derby itself the movie leaves a lot to be desired, but it’s cute… I think Juliette ended up being the toughest girl and put a lot of effort into it, I think the girls that I know who play derby see her character (whose name actually exists in derby, Iron Maven) as a real derby girl.

Mari – I’ve seen Whip It, of course! It was the first derby-related movie I saw. I think the movie is pretty amazing, although there is some ilegal stuff that went on during the bouts (like throwing elbows for example), but then you realize that that’s what is fun about the Hurl Scouts, their lack of care for the rules (kids, don’t do this on the track! haha!)
Juliette passed for a derby girl easily! She’s got attitude, she’s got a pretty awesome game face and she’s got that special Juliette something going on, that cool stuff. <3 I can say that she was my first derby crush, back in March 2010!

Juliette fell in love with Roller Derby and she loves when local leagues go to her concerts. Leave her a message!

Dedé – All I can say is that I love the fact that Juliette invites the derby girls from the city she’s playing to go to her concert! Here in Brazil roller derby is so unpopular that having the visibility she brings would be spectacular! Juliette, come to Brazil skate with the Rebels! We dig your music, you’re rad!

Mari – Juliette, come to Brazil again! PLEASE! The Gray City Rebels will open their doors to you, let’s rock and roll, sista!

Nossa querida Juliette Lewis está preparando um novo álbum de estudio, o sucessor de “Terra Incognita”, lançado em 2009 e produzido por Omar Rodrigues-Lopez (The Mars Volta).

Em maio, durante a entrevista exclusiva realizada por nós em parceria com o Tenho Mais Discos Que Amigos!, Lewis revelou que gostaria de convidar Linda Perry para produzi-lo - que cuidou do EP “Like a Bolt of Lightning”.

As composições e gravações com Perry começaram no final de junho e, aparentemente, os resultados são diferentes da linha seguida por Lewis nos seus trabalhos anteriores. Segundo a própria, “o ‘novo som’ envolve muito fuzz, algumas batidas eletrônicas e a febre ‘A Whole Lotta Rock n roll’”.

Lewis também contou que o seu segundo álbum solo será misterioso, contagioso e mais cativante: com refrões cativantes e riffs simples. Ela, também divulgou o nome de duas faixas: “Rockaway” (cujo refrão conta com “ooh oohs”) e “Kick Drum Song” (onde toca bumbo).

Para nos deixar ainda mais curiosos e contando os dias para o lançamento do registro ou de alguma prévia, foi mais que confirmada a participação de Dave Grohl no disco (lembrando que ele foi o responsável por todas as baterias do terceiro álbum dos Licks, “Four on the Floor”). Na quarta-feira 27/07, ao postar no twitter uma foto ao lado de Lewis e do líder do Foo Fighters, Linda Perry escreveu:“Whoa!!!! Visita incrível do Dave Grohl. Ele acabou de tocar em uma música da Juliette”.

Outro convidado especial e confirmado durante a nossa entrevista, é o querido guitarrista Kemble Walters, que foi um dos integrantes dos Licks até um ano antes da banda encerrar suas atividades, em 2008.

O álbum segue sem título e previsão de lançamento, mas informaremos assim que soubermos de mais detalhes.

Aproveitando, Juliette Lewis também está envolvida em mais um projeto de Linda Perry, que virá por aí. Ontem ela publicou no seu twitter que estava muito inspirada e compondo uma letra para uma nova canção da eterna intérprete de  ”What’s Up?” (conhecida também como “What’s Going On?”).

Vale avisar também que Lewis gravou o videoclipe do single “Can’t Getcha Out Of My Mind”, do projeto que Perry tem com Tony Tornay (Fatso Jetson), o Deep Dark Robot, como uma de suas personagens mais marcantes: Mallory Knox, de “Assassinos Por Natureza” (confira a filmografia completa da atriz/cantora aqui). O curta, gravado há 2 meses, ainda não tem data de lançamento.

Our dear Juliette Lewis is preparing a new album to follow “Terra Incognita”, released in 2009 and produced by Omar Rodrigues-Lopes (The Mars Volta).

During the interview given to our website in partnership with Tenho Mais Discos Que Amigos! In May, Lewis said she wants to invite Linda Perry (who took care of the “Like a Bolt of Lightning” EP) to produce it.

The composing and recording sessions with Perry began in the end of June and, apparently, the results are going to be different than what Lewis has done before. According to herself, ”the ‘new sound’ involves a lot of fuzzed out base, some electronic beats and ‘A Whole Lotta Rock n’ roll’ fever!”.

Lewis also said that her second solo album is going to be mysterious, contagious and more captivating: with captivating choruses and simple riffs. She also announced the title of two tracks: “Rockaway” (the chorus is filled with “ooh oohs”) and “Kick Drum Song” (she plays bass drum on this one).

To make us even more curious and counting the days for the release of the album or maybe to listen to a teaser, the participation of Dave Grohl in the album was more than confirmed (he was also responsible for the drums in the “Four on the Floor” album). This week Linda Perry posted a photo in her twitter account next to Lewis and the Foo Fighters’ leader saying: “Whoa!!!! Awesome visit from Dave Grohl. He just played on Juliette Lewis’ song”.

Another special guest in the album, who was confirmed in our interview, is the dear guitarist Kemble Walters, who played in Juliette and the Licks until one year before the band broke up in 2008.

There’s still no title for the album or a release date, but we’ll let you know as soon as we have more details about it.

By the way, Juliette Lewis is also involved in another Linda Perry’s project. On July 28th she posted in her twitter account that she is very inspired and writing lyrics to a new song of the eternal interpreter of “What’s Up?”.

Lewis also participated in the video clip for the single “Can’t Getcha Out Of My Mind” from Deep Dark Robot, a project Perry has with Tony Tornay (Fatso Jetson). She played one of her most remarkable characters: Mallory Knox from “Natural Born Killers”. The video, shot two months ago, has no release date yet.

Another of Juliette’s special appearances!

This time she was in the “The Last Rockstar”, video debut for Matt Sorum (former The Cult and Guns N’ Roses and current Velvet Revolver drummer) and his girlfriend Ace Harper’s new band Diamond Baby.

The video also features Jane Lynch (Glee’s Sue Sylverster), Verne Troyer (Austin Power’s Mini-Me) and Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead’s rock God). Catchy tune and fun video!
